Meet our Staff

The Team at The Inn at Montross

We are excited to have a great team full of locals here to welcome you to The Inn at Montross. Here’s some interesting information to acquaint you with our team members.

Innkeepers Bob and Jenn

Bob and Jenn are the newest members of the Inn at Montross team, and will be moving to Montross in a couple of months. Their strong background in marketing, food and beverage, and hotels give them the knowledge to coordinate all aspects of the property.

Born and raised in Northern Pennsylvania, Bob moved to Virginia in 1999 to become a police officer. After four years, Bob decided to pursue a career in the beer and wine industry, where he spent the last eleven years. Bob loves to cook, and also did small caterings on the side, making BBQ! He is excited for this opportunity to continue helping the inn flourish, as well as settling in to become a part of the “family” of Montross. Bob’s years in the beer and wine world have added a small staple to the inn, allowing for the purchase of craft beer and wines by the bottle, six-pack, or case, to be taken off-site. A growler station will soon be added to the inn.

Jenn made her way to Montross from Lusby, Maryland. Coming to the inn with lots of energy, Jenn will be the main gal in charge of the background work – including emails, marketing, and website info – all while trying to contain their little man Dalton from running all over the house. She is delighted that all the paths she has traveled have led her here and can be put to use at the inn to create memorable guest experiences. She is the behind-the-scenes lady who wants to make every visit to The Inn at Montross a visit to be treasured, all while trying to keep Bob and Dalton in line.

Chef Gene

After trying out Old Dominion University for a stint Gene started his kitchen years in Callao, Virginia with Nino’s Pizza from 1996-2003. He quickly realized that a kitchen is where he wanted to be. He stayed for eight years, learning under Nino himself. Gene joined The Inn at Montross in early 2012 – and this is where he belongs! He is an avid arrowhead collector, accomplished golfer, sneaky sweet tooth, beloved uncle and Mountain Dew enthusiast. Gene loves the Northern Neck rivers and waterways – he enjoys being anywhere outdoors in the good ole NNK. Gene resides in Sharps, Virginia.

Sous Chef Wes

Wes brings a great attitude of happiness and fun to the kitchen, while learning everything he can from Gene. Wes started off as a bartender and server, but has found his love for cooking and learning to properly use a knife far more interesting.

Sous Chef Ryan

Graduating from the culinary division of the Northern Neck Technical Center, and highly recommended by the staff, Ryan is a gift to the inn. His happiness is contagious and his willingness to provide you with an excellent experience will make you smile.  He has an amazing spirit that keeps both our staff and customers happy to be wherever he is. Come see Ryan most any Thursday and Sunday at Brunch.

Lead Server, Baker, and Lead Caterer Helle

In 1994, at the ripe age of 25, Helle left her day-care job in Denmark to travel Europe for a year. Two weeks into her sabbatical, a wine tasting turned into crossing the Atlantic Ocean on a 50’ Catch, on which she cruised to the Caribbean Islands, and ended in Kinsale – where she caught herself a husband. Helle loves to bake and cook, play guitar/bass, sing, drink wine, and have a good old time.

Dishwasher Sarah

Clean dishes are critical and Ms. Sarah is the best! Ms. Sarah was born and raised in Westmoreland County. Her great grandfather owned a farm here. She loves to play with her cousins’ grandchildren, and also has one son and a baby grand-daughter of her own. She is a serious fan of The Young and Restless, and The Bold and the Beautiful. Ms. Sarah also enjoys bingo and dabbles in sewing.

Server and Caterer  – Jennifer

With plenty of service, style, and experience, Jen adds her easy-to-follow leadership talents to our excellent staff team. She can bake, run her household, manage a full family schedule by making it to all the kids’ functions – AND welcome you with a relaxing and top-notch experience here at the inn. Be sure to ask her about her amazing collection of earrings!

Server Taylor

A graduate of Washington & Lee High School Taylor is now making the grade at The College of Charleston in Charleston, SC.  She’s home during breaks and holiday’s and yes…she’s still ours.  She simply keeps us organized and makes us proud.
